Scope of DOE Activities

At the Smolensk nuclear power plant, DOE efforts are directed toward improving safety of day-to-day operations at the plant and improving critical plant safety systems. DOE projects include developing emergency operating instructions (1993-ongoing); providing improved maintenance tools, equipment, and techniques (1995-ongoing); and improving fire prevention and detection systems (1993-ongoing).
