| From 1993-2003, the U.S. Department of Energy conducted a comprehensive, cooperative effort to improve safety at Soviet-designed nuclear power plants. In nine partnering countries joint projects corrected major safety deficiencies and established self-sustaining nuclear safety infrastructures. This site serves as a historical reference for these activities. |

What's New?
The information presented on this site is primarily for historical reference. Overview 2005 Activities and Ukraine Nuclear Fuel Qualification Project are being included to provide information regarding the International Nuclear Safety Program (INSP) activities after 2003. The Chornobyl Initiatives section now includes information regarding the 20th Anniversary.
As work has been completed in many of the former Soviet States, the INSP activities have been reduced. INSP is currently only providing assistance to Armenia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania and Ukraine.
